Visceral fat: internal enemy

How To Reduce Visceral Fat (Aka "Belly Fat") (Health And Medical Video July 2018).

Visceral fat is called fat, which is located in the abdominal cavity and surrounds the internal organs. It should be distinguished from subcutaneous fat that is located outside the abdominal cavity.

Visceral Fat: Risk Factors

Accumulation of visceral fat is associated with the risk of the development of many cardiological and metabolic diseases and disorders, which include:

  • Atherosclerosis (and related cardiovascular disease);
  • diabetes;
  • osteoporosis;
  • Metabolic syndrome;
  • Sleep apnea

Visceral fat is directly related to the development of type 2 diabetes, as it affects the carbohydrate metabolism, increasing the tissue's resistance to insulin.

Osteoporosis, which is believed to be primarily a female disease, significantly correlates with the amount of visceral fat in men. Studies show the relationship between the amount of visceral fat and the degree of osteoporosis. It is noteworthy that with the same weight of the body, men who have predominantly subcutaneous fat, osteoporosis suffer much less.

Atherosclerosis is a direct consequence of an increase in cholesterol and low density lipoprotein in the blood, which also depends on the amount of visceral fat in humans. Fatty plaques, deposited on the walls of the vessels, eventually acquire the nature of blood clots and significantly impair the blood circulation of the internal organs, including the heart and brain, which increases the risk of developing myocardial infarction and stroke, as well as the development of other diseases.

Studies have shown almost twice as much mortality in people with visceral fat than those who do not have this fat.

Diagnosis of visceral fat

At present, the only reliable way to determine the amount of visceral fat is the magnetic resonance imaging of the abdominal cavity.

As well as fat subcutaneous, visceral fat can be reduced due to exercise and diet. Adequate physical stresses in a proper diet can create a condition in which the body will burn the accumulated fats, and when reaching the acceptable level of fats to prevent their accumulation.

In the diet, the key importance is reduced the consumption of polyunsaturated fats with the transition to polyunsaturated (seafood, vegetable oils).
