Stomach ulcer is a life-threatening illness. How to keep it safe and how to treat it, if it has already appeared?

Stomach ulcer is a disease in which the mucous membrane of the stomach is damaged in the form of erosions and ulcers. In medical practice, there are cases of self-treatment of this disease, but if the ulcer becomes exacerbated, there is a real threat not only to health but also to life.

Stomach ulcer: causes

The exact causes of gastric ulcer are not yet known. But it is clear that the disease occurs on the background of an imbalance of gastric juice and protective function of the mucous membrane of the stomach and duodenum.

The epithelium of these organs for various reasons becomes super-sensitizing to the digestive enzyme and is irritated under its action. An ulcer can be caused by:

  • An infection that causes bacteria and Helicobacter pylori
  • Regular administration of anesthetics - nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen and many others. Despite the fact that the aspirin tablets are coated with a special substance that protects the stomach from irritation, after prolonged administration of the drug, the ulcer may still occur.
  • High acidity. Increased secretion of gastric juice is observed, for example, in patients with gastrin secretion tumors (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
