The vertical partition, formed by the fine bone and cartilaginous part, divides the nasal cavity in half. Thought and sensitive, it is so prone to various deformations that its distortion is considered the most common of all ENT pathologies.

Causes of distortion of the nasal septum

The main causes of distortion of the nasal septum are three.

  1. Incorrect development of the facial bones during the growth of the body (bone and cartilage parts of the partition sometimes develop unevenly).
  2. Injuries (and this is not necessarily a turning point: some injuries can already be inflicted at birth) and the disease has been transmitted.
  3. Hereditary anatomical features.

Curvature of the nasal septum can lead to violation of nasal breathing, which is fundamentally different from the mouth and breathing is for the body active role: the air in the nasal cavity cleaned and warmed.

Ways to correct nasal septum

There is a nonoperative method for correcting the nasal septum - a laser chondroseptoplasty. However, this method is effective only with small distortions, and therefore only a small proportion of patients are suitable.

More effective surgical methods of correction - submucosal resection and, its successor, septoplasty. In this case, the distorted part of the nasal septum is drawn out, is subject to correction and reimplantation. The operation takes about half an hour, is carried out under anesthesia and does not require cuts of the skin of the face.

After correcting the nasal septum, the patient may return to normal rhythm of life in ten days, with the condition of retention from physical activity for a month. Complete recovery of all nose functions takes about two weeks.
