From loneliness, people are sick - scientists

The Science Of Depression (Health And Medical Video June 2018).

The study, conducted by Canadian specialists, showed that getting sick from loneliness is real - while social isolation undermines not only mental but also physical health.

According to scientists, a person in a new place is extremely important to get a friendly and friendly circle of communication as quickly as possible.

The authors of the work were psychologists from the Concordia University in Montreal. Over the course of 5 months, they supervised a group of 60 students who came from different countries of the world to study in Montreal. Scientists were interested not only in the psychological aspects of the life of foreigners in a new place, but also in the health of the hearts of these people.

In particular, physicians monitored the changes in the heart rate of the participants in the experiment. According to experts, heart rate indicators reflect the state of the parasympathetic nervous system and the cardiovascular system, as well as characterize the health of the organism as a whole.

It turned out that the most favorable characteristics of the cardiac rhythm were observed only among those students who were able to acquire new social connections in the first five months after arriving in Canada. But those young people who did not manage to "grow" in their acquaintances during this time they were much lower, which spoke of poor stress and a tendency to stress-related illnesses.

According to researchers, after moving to another city or country, people often find it very difficult to re-embed into society. If their social isolation lasts for a long time, it can negatively affect physical health, as well as the work of the parasympathetic nervous system, they emphasize.

"New immigrants need to first establish relationships with other people," said Professor Jean-Philip Guine, head of research at the opening, "The sooner you socially integrate at a new location, the healthier your health will be. I understand it's easier to say, Than to do, but nevertheless, it's so."
