However, recent studies have shown that people with gout, can reduce the risk of exacerbation by eating a cup of cherry per day. The physiological foundations of such interrelations remain unclear and require further research. However, the effect of cherry diet on the course of the disease is beyond doubt.
What is gout
Gout is due to metabolic disorders of certain substances - purines. As a result of a violation in the body accumulated uric acid, which at some point begins to be deposited in the form of crystals in the joints, kidneys and other organs.

A recent study by the University School of Medicine (Boston, USA) involved 633 gout patients. Participants were requested after a regular attack to undergo extensive personal testing to identify the factors that stimulate and inhibit the development of the attack. They then recommended the use of cherries and products from it, and three months later, the same poll was conducted.
As a result of the study, it became clear that the use of a cup of cherry per day reduces the risk of an attack in the next 48 hours by 50%. The use of cherry products (juice, compote, jam, jam) reduces the risk by 40%.
It has been proven that exactly 20 berries (about a cup of cherry) are the amount that can reduce the likelihood of an attack. In turn, reducing the portion, prevent the attack can not, and the increase in the amount of cherries does not increase the effect.

Researchers assume that such an amazing effect of cherry is due to the presence in it of a large number of anthocyanins - red-violet pigments that have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants prevent the harmful effects of free radicals - molecules that play a huge role in the processes of inflammation.
Anthocyanins are also found in eggplants, blueberries, raspberries, and red grapes. However, according to researchers, in cherry such antioxidants contain the most.
