By estimates, WHO will be able to defeat tuberculosis in countries with a low incidence rate by 2050. WHO and European Respiratory Society experts presented a program to combat tuberculosis in 33 countries of the world.
In the first stage, by 2035, the level of morbidity should be up to 10 new cases per year for 1 million inhabitants per year. And by 2050, the infection can be considered to be eliminated if the incidence is less than 1 case per year per 1 million people. First of all, the program is aimed at vulnerable groups of the population. It includes screening for TB in risk groups; Optimization of prevention of drug resistance; Support for global programs to fight infection. It is planned to fund research on treatment and prevention of the disease.
The presented program will be useful for countries where 155 thousand new cases of tuberculosis are registered annually, with 10 thousand patients dying.
As for Ukraine, according to official statistics, in our country more than 100 new cases of the disease are detected every day.
