All you need to know about stomach hernias, their types, complications, prognosis and treatment.
What is a hernia?
Hernia - movement, pushing the internal organ, with the preservation of the shell, due to the weak place of the surrounding wall in the adjacent cavity.
Usually, the term "hernia" in the home means hernia, although there are still brain hernias, muscle, pulmonary and even hernias of the intervertebral discs.
Hernia belly: what is it like?
Hernia stomach (ventral hernia) - the output of the abdominal cavity through the hole in the abdominal wall, with the formation of pockets of the peritoneal membrane.
The abdominal wall opening may be of natural origin (eg, umbilical hernia) or pathological (postoperative hernia). Normally, the abdominal wall has "weak" areas through which the peritoneum (abdominal cavity) can be squeezed under pressure.
An increase in intraabdominal pressure can lead to:
- Excessive physical activity (lifting of loads)
- Strain during labor (a common cause for women);
- Tendency to constipation or difficulty in urinating (frequent abdominal pressure)
- And even a chronic painful cough.
In all these cases, as a rule, its factor is the weakness of the connective tissue, which may have other manifestations (for example, a varicosity).
Hernia stomach: symptoms
The first and main symptom of a stomach hernia is the appearance under the skin of a mild-elastic education, similar to a tumor. From a tumor it distinguishes a sharp appearance, shortly after provoking factors (lifting of gravity, cough, laughter, etc.).
The moment of appearance can be accompanied by unpleasant sensations, it is due to the fact that the formed hernia is squeezed into the hernial gates, stretching and dislodging the surrounding tissues.
The hernia itself, as a rule, is not painful, it is easy to exercise. Such a hernia is called prravima.
But with each hernia outlet, the opening in the abdominal wall (hernial gates) becomes larger, and the effort for protrusion is needed less. Subsequently, the hernial bag overgrown with subcutaneous adhesions and ceases to work out (an irreducible hernia).
Often the contents of a hernia becomes a large omentum, fatty apron, which covers our intestines in the front. But in the hernial sac may also enter the loops of the intestines.
As the promotion of the contents of the intestine in this case becomes more complicated, the patient may experience signs of intestinal obstruction. Given that the blood supply to the hernia is broken, and in the case of distress - completely stops, the herniated stomach is dangerous to such complications as necrosis (necrosis) of the intestinal wall. That is why the hernia constraint is an urgent surgical disease, such that it is subject to immediate surgical treatment.
Treatment of abdominal hernia
After detecting a stomach hernia, patients for a long time do not give the disease a special significance, hoping that the hernia will remain in its original form, small and painless, until the end of life.
Never has hatred of the abdomen reversible, it becomes over years only if, of course, it will not be limited in the hernial gates and will not end with an urgent operation. In order to avoid severe consequences (restriction, necrosis, obstruction and peritonitis), it is better to operate the hernia in the planned order.
Planned treatment allows you to intervene under local anesthesia, without large cuts and without high risk of complications.
In addition, in the last 20 years, low-invasive laparoscopic treatments have been developed and introduced, which allow them to operate through small cuts of the stomach without cuts.
Although over the years the scope of laparoscopy in the treatment of hernias has greatly decreased, planned operations remain the most attractive in the treatment of hernias.
But patients do not think so. Trying to delay the moment of the last operation, most patients prefer to wear bandages and pedals - devices that push the hernial gates out.
As practice shows, all these tricks do not save people from complications. Therefore, try to warn the problem that, as you know, it is much easier.
